Meizu M6, Rhythmbox and HAL

I already wrote about my Meizu M6 and Rhythmbox and how to get them working together. This time HAL, the hardware abtraction layer in recent Linux systems is involved.

Jabber/XMPP and ICQ transport through a Squid proxy using port 443 (https)

I'm running my own Jabber server for quite a while using ejabberd. I was a bit uncertain if an Erlang based application is the right for me, but ejabberd runs just fine.

At some point I ran into the problem that my new company only allow access to the internet via a Squid proxy server. I therefore wasn't able to connect to my server any longer *sigh* I was looking for some alternatives that would allow me to have ICQ at my fingertips as well.

Debian Lenny eAccelerator packages (AMD64)

As I already explained I use the eAccelerator packages from Andrew McMillan.

Unfortunately he didn't compile new packages for Debian Lenny. Therefore I took his work as starting point and compiled the packages for the latest Lenny updates for the amd64. The i386 packages will follow soon.

You can find the packages at my repository or add it to your sources.list

JEE on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) 64bit

I recently struggled with the installation of JEE on my 64bit version of Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). I wanted to install the version without the JDK, but with Glassfish.

The download of java_ee_sdk-5_07-linux-nojdk.bin went as smoothly as expected, but then the trouble began...

I made the file executable with

  1. chmod 755 java_ee_sdk-5_07-linux-nojdk.bin

Nagios integration of Zero RRD

If you're running Nagios as you monitoring and alerting software and Zero RRD at the same time you surely would like to integrate them.

Holger wrote some words on Zero in Nagios.

Javascript isArray() : Check if an element/object is an Array

I work on the front-end part of Zero RRD framework again. It was a very basic interface and the usability wasn't, well isn't that good.

The new stuff is mostly JavaScript and I needed to check if a variable is an array or not. I found the snippet at bram.us, but it isn't fully working for me.

Success of policyd-weight and RBL

As I already told I'm using policyd-weight for SPAM protection purposes. Since I'm always curious how it behaves I use the mailgraph to get some statistics from my logs.

If you look on the number of past week's sent and received mails is approx. 0.13 mail/minute.

New release of Zero RRD Framwork

The new release of the Zero RRD Framework is out. You can either update via SVN or download the tar.gz of version 0.9.2.1.

We mainly fixed some installation annoyances and hopa updated the VMware and VirtualBox images. Furthermore we improved the date selection of the start and end date which accepts either rrdtool compatible of human readable dates now. Even a nice looking JS calendar for date selection is available.
